Francis was born in Charlestown, RI. As far back as he can remember, Francis has loved anything to do with nature and the beautiful planet that we call "home." As a child growing up in South County, he spent countless hours outdoors observing and exploring the world around him. This strongly influenced his love of nature, and even as a child, he would try to capture that in his art.
By the age of 10, he began accompanying his father on fishing trips, the family business. In time, he also became a commercial fisherman, fishing primarily out of Point Judith, RI. This only served to enhance his love of nature, and in particular, his love of the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. As time went by, however, some aspects of commercial fishing began to bother him and he eventually gave up commercial fishing. He still loves to fish, but chooses to do so in sustainable, selective ways.
Francis' art is characterized by a vivid color palette. He now works mainly with oils, although he also continues to enjoy watercolor. Francis hopes that his artwork conveys the deep love and appreciation for the ocean and nature (particularly South County) that he feels.
